Last year, I wrote an article regarding the status of the narration which encourages increasing expenditure on the family on ʿĀshūrāʾ (10th Muḥarram). Recently, I came across a treatise by the Mālikī scholar Imam Ibn al-Qaṭṭān al-Fāsī (d. 628/1231) entitled Faḍāʾil ʿĀshūrāʾ, which is printed in the second volume of the nineteenth annual edition of Liqāʾ al-ʿAshr al-Awākhir bi al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. I understand that it is preferable to avoid fasting exclusively on 10th Muḥarram. However, I have heard that according to the Ḥanafī school of thought, it is makrūh to fast exclusively on 10th Muḥarram. Please can you clarify the matter.

Virtue of spending on one’s family on 10 Muharram (Muhaddithul Asr Shaykh Yunus Jownpuri Sahib)

Every year during the first ten days of Muharram, there is a discussion regarding the status of the Hadith that encourages spending on one’s family on 10 Muharram, the day of ‘Ashura. The Hadith states, “Whoever expands his expenditure on his family on the day of ‘Aashura, AllahTa’ala will expand his sustenance for the rest of that year”.
