Spending on the family on ʿĀshūrāʾ (Part 2)
Summary of the treatise of Imam Ibn al-Qaṭṭān al-Fāsī al-Mālikī (d. 628/1231)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
Last year, I wrote an article regarding the status of the narration which encourages increasing expenditure on the family on ʿĀshūrāʾ (10th Muḥarram). The various views of the scholars and ḥadīth experts regarding the authenticity of this narration were outlined in the article which is available on the following link: https://nawadir.org/2016/09/18/spending-on-the-family-on-ashura-10-muharram/. Recently, I came across a treatise by the Mālikī scholar Imam Ibn al-Qaṭṭān al-Fāsī (d. 628/1231) entitled Faḍāʾil ʿĀshūrāʾ, which is printed in the second volume of the nineteenth annual edition of Liqāʾ al-ʿAshr al-Awākhir bi al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. Obituary: Muḥaddith al-ʿAṣr Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Mawlānā Muḥammad Yūnus Jownpūrī
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
It is with great sadness and sorrow we received the news of the demise of our teacher and the teacher of our teachers, Muḥaddith al-ʿAṣr Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Mawlānā Muḥammad Yūnus Jownpūrī (d. 1438/2017) this morning at approximately 5am British Summer Time. When I retired to sleep just after 2am, I had received the news of the demise of Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Ismāʿīl Badāt a resident of the blessed city of Madīnah, who like Shaykh Muḥammad Yūnus Jownpūrī was a disciple of Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Mawlānā Muḥammad Zakariyyā Kāndhelwī (d. 1402/1982). The scholars have differing views regarding the location of the grave of the beloved daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, Sayyidatuna Fatima (May Allah be pleased with her). The following document in Arabic outlines several views and concludes with the preferred view that she is buried in the Baqi graveyard, though the precise location of her grave in Baqi is unknown.
Faḍāʾil Aʿmāl Ḥadīth Query
It is stated in Faḍāʾil Aʿmāl on page 47 of the Chapter of Ṣalāh:
“A person neglecting his Ṣalāh (even though he makes it up later) shall remain in Hell for a period of one ḥaqb. A ḥaqb is equal to eighty years of three hundred and sixty days each, and a day in the Hereafter shall equal one thousand years of this world.”
Shaykhul Hadith Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya Sahib (May Allah have mercy on him) was one of the greatest scholars of the previous century. In this indispensable piece, his successor and senior student, Muhaddithul Asr Shaykhul Hadith Moulana Muhammad Yunus Jownpuri Sahib, provides a glimpse into his life. This brief biography is in Arabic and has been extracted from Al-Yawaqit Al-Ghaliyah.
